Here at Ellanesque, we are always looking for new places to get our name out there.  That is why when we were approached by a a member of the sales team, we gave it serious consideration and decided to sign up!  For those of you not familiar with, it is a directory site similar to the Knot and Wedding Wire.  Though it is currently not as popular, we really liked the layout and all that was offered on the site.

Here is a link to our profile on for you to view, along with a promotion that we are offering this month only!  Let us know what you think!  If you like our profile, please take a minute to "Love" us on!

You will be making many decisions leading up to your wedding day, and the most important of those decisions could very well be which vendors you select to be a part of your vendor team on your wedding day.  Choosing the right vendors is crucial, but how do you weed out the bad ones and select only the good?  It can be a very intimidating process, so we will highlight a few items to look for and shed some light on some common misconceptions when it comes to selecting vendors.  This is the first of two entries we will have about this topic.  Today, we will focus on finding vendors on wedding directory sites.

If you have hired a wedding planner, they should have experience with many of the local wedding vendors and they will be able to give you recommendations based on their previous experience with certain vendors.  Wedding vendors come and go more often than you would think, so no planner will know EVERY vendor in a certain area, but they should know enough of them to be able to provide valuable suggestions.  If you have a planner, take advantage of their expertise!  For those of you who have not hired a wedding planner, the rest of this article will be very useful for you.

First of all, you need to take any labels that appear next to any vendor with a grain of salt.  Most directory services (the Knot, Wedding Wire, mywedding, etc.) may show certain wedding vendors as featured, some may have a spotlight, some may always appear at the top of the listings, or there may be certain awards given.  The key is to pay attention to what has been EARNED, not what has been paid for.  In general, a position at the top of the list or a label such as featured has been paid for.  Realize that directories are a business and selling upgraded listings is one of the ways that they make money.  There is nothing wrong with this, but if you see a vendor who appears at the top of the listings and has a label such as featured, but does not have any reviews, be sure to look at that vendor very closely.  There are many excellent vendors who are featured on some directory sites (we are featured on some ourselves) but the reason is simply that we pay to be there.

What you need to look for is a combination of reviews and actual photos, videos, or samples of their work.  Most of the awards given by directory sites are based on the reviews received, which are hopefully legitimate.  Overall, a vendor who received an award has most likely earned that award and so that is something to take into consideration.  It is a validation of their quality of work.  However, since the awards are almost always based on reviews (directory sites hardly ever see a vendor's actual work, so have no other way to know whether they are good or bad), you should rely on the actual reviews more than the awards.  There are certain criteria that must be met to receive an award and it is very possible that one vendor who received let's say 12 great reviews would not receive an award while a vendor who received 15 great reviews, 5 good or average reviews and 2 bad reviews would receive one.

When reading the reviews, look for details.  We have found that when a bride is thrilled with our service, she will most likely leave a detailed review to express that.  Do realize that although the vast majority of reviews are reliable, there is no guarantee that a review was not posted by the business owner's mother, friends who wanted to help them out, etc.  Though we do believe that most Houston wedding vendors are honest and that over 95% of reviews are from real clients, this is why we suggest looking at examples of their actual work that they have done for other brides in addition to reading the reviews.  If the work looks good and the reviews look good, it's on to the interview!

One more thing to note about reviews before we go... If a vendor does not have very many reviews on a certain directory, it may be worth your while to look for that vendor on another directory to see if you can find reviews there.  Some vendors choose to direct all clients to one site, some choose to spread their requests out to multiple sites, and others may have just started advertising with a certain directory and so could have no reviews on that directory while having 50+ great reviews on another directory.

That's enough for this entry.  We will post a follow up entry soon to discuss useful tips and information to know when looking for vendors while using a search engine.

So this year has been truly amazing with SO many amazing new clients, reconnecting with previous ones, and getting our name out there by getting our weddings, style shoots and more published and featured out there for YOU to adore and use for your wedding inspiration.

We were beyond honored and thrilled when Aisha from Ama Photography & Cinema approached us to collaborate on a style shoot for her and her videographer, Orlando.  They had an incredible vision that we wanted to run with and make even more amazing!  We could see how beautiful the end result would be if we brought in the BEST vendors that had the same passion on this project.  We were on board and so the planning, designing, and coordinating began.

Then, we decided to take it a step further and submit our style shoot/video to a few well known blog names in the wedding industry. Each blog that published our style shoot was excited to feature all our hard work and here is what each blog had to say about our Lost Love style shoot.

We want to spend a few moments thanking YOU! That's right- because of you and other happy brides we had the pleasure to work with, The Knot has chosen us a winner of the Knot Best of Weddings 2013.  We are so blessed and honored to have been chosen for this special award!  At Ellanesque, we strive to make sure each couple we work with is happy with everything Ellanesque has to offer.  It's great to see that we are succeeding with this, since this award is mostly review based.

In addition to the Knot Best of Weddings 2013 award, we were the ONLY wedding planner in Houston to be chosen as an Editors' Pick this year!  The Editors' Pick distinction is based on the quality of the weddings that we were a part of, and we are definitely honored that the Knot appreciated all of our efforts this past year!

We would like to thank you and all our other couples who have chosen us to be a part of their wedding planning and special day.  We really enjoyed making each couple's wedding planning experience a pleasant and unforgettable one!
