Winning YOUR Superbowl!
- Created: 03 February 2013
Today is the big day! The closing chapter of the NFL season, where only two teams remain and will go head to head to decide who's Champion.
For most of us, winning the Superbowl is out of the question. I mean, think about it; many people have played football and only the best go on to play football in college, then only the best of those go on to play in the NFL. There are 32 teams in the NFL, and only two of them make it to the Superbowl each year, with only one bringing home the Lombardi trophy! It's quite an accomplishment when you think about it!
Of course, life is full of dreams that you can choose to pursue. Your dream doesn't have to have anything to do with football! Many of you are pursuing a dream right now - getting married! No matter what you are pursuing, if you approach it with the same level of effort that these elite athletes have when preparing for the big game, you almost certainly will have a success story of your own to share. The key is to be determined, have a plan and work hard to achieve it, and NEVER give up!
Your Superbowl could be writing a book, building a business, or losing ten pounds. None of these things are easy for most of us, but if you work at whatever is important to you with all your heart, and set your mind on your own personal victory, then you can win your Superbowl!
Now go out there and make a difference! We're pulling for you :)

Love and Politics

It's that time again! Every four years...and no, I'm not referring to the Olympics! On November 6th, our nation will elect the next President and we will have to be able to tolerate seeing that person on TV over and over and over and over....again for four full years. But besides having to tolerate them on TV, we will also have to deal with their policies and the effects that those policies have on us today and in the future. The positive here though is that after November 6th, we can finally get a break from the nonstop exaggeration and lies/untruths (whatever you wish to call them) that go into a Presidential campaign.
If you're reading this blog, you are probably old enough to vote, and old enough to have an educated opinion about who to vote for. But what if your spouse has a different opinion and supports the other guy? What if your spouse or fiance is just...WRONG? I would imagine that most of the time, spouses probably see eye to eye on politics and have similar views on the important things. That is not the case with every marriage though. I believe that the three toughest things to overcome in a marriage are differing views on money, religion, and POLITICS!
How can my husband to be vote for someone who believes in X?
How can my wife be so blind not to see through that lie?
So what should the game plan be for a marriage where one person will be voting for Romney and the other for Obama on election day? Well, how about making a movie night or date night out of it instead of going to the polls? Your votes will just cancel each other out anyway, right? So, why don't you suggest that plan of action to your spouse and then if they agree...just cast your vote early! That way, your spouse doesn't cancel your vote. I'm only kidding of course...you shouldn't follow the example set by the candidates and lie to get ahead, especially to your spouse!
On election day, just talk about the weather. In fact, talk about anything but politics. You're probably not going to be able to change their mind anyway. You love each other, so why fight about it? If all else fails, I hear the Cayman Islands are pretty nice. Maybe you could move into a house that you didn't build and watch reruns of Big Bird on Sesame Street!

How much money do you spend on soft drinks, coffee, tea, or other beverages each day? I know I spend plenty! Well, what if I told you that there are millions of people in countries all over the world who have to worry about when they will have their next drink of the beverage that you and me spend money trying to avoid: water. Kinda changes your opinion on the clear stuff, right?
In 2007, students at Texas A&M started the 10 Days Project, where you drink nothing but water for 10 days and donate the money you save to build water wells in Africa. Even in hard economic times, we are truly blessed in America to have running water at our disposal 24/7 and sometimes forget how much of a difference that really makes. We are able to work, learn, and have free time every once in a while because we don't have to spend hours each day getting water. This year, the proceeds are going to build wells in Rwanda so that those communities can have a better future.
Lauren and I invite you to join us in drinking nothing but water from October 10th - October 19th.
