You have to have it to get married! Many couples get lost in the wedding planning process and they forget all about applying for a marriage license.  It is recommended that you obtain your marriage license two weeks before your wedding day.

  • Apply for the marriage license in person at a county clerk’s office.
  • Present proof of age and identity:  In Texas, you will need one valid form of id such as driver’s license, certified copy of your birth certificate, U.S. Passport, Military ID card, or your social security card.
  • Complete the application and sign it in front of the county clerk.
  • Pay the license fee:  Must be at least 72 hours between the date and time of issuance of a license and the time ceremony occurs, unless one applicant is on active duty in the armed forces or a waiver is granted.

Marriage license requirements could change:  Verify all information with the local marriage license office or county clerk before making arrangements.
